It’s been both chaotic and boring in my world lately, which is why I haven’t had much to say. On the one hand, having the house is WONDERFUL.

On the other hand, waiting for the cable installer, the sears appliance delivery people, and the security system installer has been boring. And how many times can I actually write about sleeping badly on the air mattress?

I’m in VA right now, with Jill. :) :) :) We’re getting ready to go out to brunch with Mikki and Claire, and I couldn’t be happier. The only stressor is that the lovely Lita Hall has offered Jill a role in a play at the end of June, which would have her not move down until later. :( :( :( Thanks a lot, Lita! (It IS great that people recognize Jill’s talent and want her in their shows. It sucks to be apart.)

God it was good to be home this weekend, spending time with Jill.

I guess technically, it wasn’t home any more. We closed on the sale of the condo on Friday, although we don’t have to be out until 3/31. But we were together, with our stuff, in a place we feel comfortable.

Jill picked me up Friday and we went straight to Ma Ma Wok for sushi and three-cup chicken. When we got there, Brandi and Parveer were just finishing their own three-cup chicken — which was perfect. It was great to be able to congratulate Parveer for his recent geek exploits. Jill even got into it, talking about event-geeking with her buddies in Jacksonville last weekend.

Saturday, we headed into DC for a romantic dinner at Coppi’s, which used to be our favorite neighborhood restaurant when we lived at 3rd & Q. Sunday we ate leftover bliss potato pizza and cleaned out our most chaotic closet in preparation for the big move. Maybe not the most romantic thing we’ve ever done, but at least we were together.

Last night sucked.

I got home, finished reading the Traci Lords book, and fell asleep in the temp apartment. Around 2 am, I woke up to the horrible, scary, violent, raging sound of a dogfight outside of my window. It freaked me out so much I couldn’t even look. I just pulled the covers over my ears and hoped it would end soon. Which it didn’t, or so it seemed.

I am CAMPING OUT in our new house as soon as we close. The new neighborhood doesn’t seem like a scary dog fight neighborhood. I brought the inflatable mattress down from Reston with me so I can start staying there immediately.

We close in 1 week!!!

I absolutely positively CANNOT wait! Enough with the sublets, the lack of permanence, the lack of a local phone number……

And even better, I head home-to-Reston Friday to spend the weekend with Jill.

Happier thumbs!

The expert mouse trackball has been in place since last Tuesday and I am so happy about it. I can feel the difference already.

I think part of what had me being so whiny last week is missing Jill, and missing having a community that I’m fully part of. That’s starting to happen at work, and over the weekend, I also jumped into creating it outside of work.

There was a Communication: The Power to Create course at the Landmark Education center here in Atlanta last weekend, and I went to assist with the course. Out of that, I’ve been asked to coach the Self Expression & Leadership Program, starting immediately!

I met my participants Monday evening; they’re so wonderful. I have 5 coachees, 2 men & 3 women; 2 people in sales, 1 massage therapist, 1 child-care worker, and 1 person changing careers. I’m so excited about their projects! So far, we have a teen-employment/summer food program; a huge dog-adoption/care fundraiser; an ovarian cancer research fundraiser, and 2 more projects being defined. I’m going to be creating a children’s fair in Decatur, that raises $ for the public library. All that by May 18!

Shortly after I started working at AOL, I developed a repetitive stress injury to my right thumb; as I tried to compensate, it moved to my left thumb too. And strain to my right elbow.

I wound up with:

  • 4 months PT
  • 6 months wearing ugly "flesh" colored support devices to work
  • a Kensington Expert Mouse
  • a weaker grip

So on my second day at Earthlink, I found someone to request an ergo keyboard, the Kensington Expert mouse, and an under-desk keyboard tray.

During the first week, the person I asked figured out who to ask.

During the second week, that person came and verified my request.

During the third week, she was out of town at the California office, but I did get the keyboard. Progress!

Today is Wednesday of my 4th week.

I bought my own Kensington Expert mouse last night. And got lost trying to get home from CompUSA.

Sometime today, an underdesk keyboard tray was installed under my test box. Not under my "real" computer. Now it is true that I want one there too, but I *need* one under the networked computer.

My thumbs hurt.

My elbow hurts.

I do not feel like I’m being listened to.

WHAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
