The House and the Neighborhood
Posted by Liza under Personal
The house is painted! There are no more traces of olive green or spicy brown mustard!!!
The main living area is now a quiet, warm light beige color, and the dining room is cream. The beige looks almost peach in the foyer, I think because of the thick glass light fixture.
The guest room is a rich light blue, and the master bath & master BR tray ceiling are a very pale lilac. (Can’t find either color on the SW site.) Unfortunately, I made a rotten color choice for the master BR walls — I was hoping for a darker version of the master bath color, but what I have is a true, crayola-style light purple. We’re going to have to repaint. I’m probably going to play it safe with the same pale lilac as the tray, but what I was really hoping for was a color that would make the room feel cosier (and go with the purples and creams in our bedding). Maybe a dark plum?
AND, I spoke with the Homeowner’s Association President, Greg! Our new house is in the City of Decatur, in a development called Sycamore Ridge. Greg made me feel so welcome. He and his partner Jeffery have an 11 year old son, so it sounds like we NAILED our goal of being in a community that is both gay-friendly and family friendly. Jill was excited to find out about the 11 year old; she was the Pied Piper of our block in DC. One of our neighbor boys used to greet me by saying, "Hi Elizabeth, is Jill home?" every time he saw me.
Plus, Greg was enthusiastic about my SELP Community Project idea of having a spring-fun fair event in our common area.
