We had an extraordinary weekend up in Washington DC, and even though it’s also wonderful to be home, we were sad to leave this morning.
On Friday night, we saw Jill’s former classmate Lory, then had a wonderful dinner with Jen and Cait at our most-missed DC restaurant, Coppi’s.
Saturday morning, we had breakfast with Jill’s parents, lazed around for awhile, and then went to Mikki & Claire’s house, where they, along with B and Christa, threw us a fantabulous baby shower.
It was a wonderful party on every level. The food was amazing!!! We had fruit and veggies so that people had healthy options, and our various food-sensitive friends wouldn’t starve. And there were tea sandwiches, including adorable little moon-shaped fruit-cream-cheese sandwiches, tiny ham-and-cheese, and the best chicken salad ever. Plus there were THREE kinds of cake, Claire’s signature almond cake, with the best carmel frosting in the history of frosting, and blueberry, and chocolate. I’m told the punch was yummy, but it was also spiked, so I passed.
And we got TONS of useful presents! No longer do we need to worry that Lil Smudge will have to be naked after he gets home from the hospital. We have MONTHS of wardrobe options, each cuter than the next. I have the feeling that Jill may begin sleeping with the fuzzy bunny slippers already. And despite her protestations, Jen’s hat was finished and a huge hit with the whole party. I don’t think I have the stamina to list everything here, at least not today, but he also has great toys, books, blankets, and gear to help stay clean and fed.
The best part was getting to connect with our friends. A few people couldn’t make it because of conflicting demands on their time, but so many were there, it was amazing.
A few people hung out well into the afternoon, including Little Levi, who really isn’t all that little, especially for a boy his age, and his Moms, whom I miss horribly. Unfortunately, Robin had a 30th birthday party that evening and Levi has finite tolerance for being away from home, so they didn’t join our hostesses and us for dinner at the Olney Ale House. But we laughed and giggled and caught up well into the night.
And this morning, we had a wonderfully lazy breakfast with Mikki & Claire (bacon, eggs, and cake), packed all the gifts except the Diaper Champ into our ridiculously large suitcase, and drove off to the airport.
Thank you, everybody, for a wonderful weekend.
