Probably No News Update #10
Posted by Liza under Pregnancy
The best thing I can say is that I have had occasional contractions for most of the day today, which is more than I could say the last few days. Yesterday and the day before, I only had them in the evening.
I can no longer tell whether or not they’re Braxton-Hicks or "real" or just Smudge moving in a way that squeezes everything else together.
But there isn’t much of a pattern, whatever it is that’s going on, and it isn’t sufficiently intense to stop me from moving or talking. So I’d say it isn’t labor, or if it is, it is SO EARLY that it may well keep going like this for days.
Jill is now talking about buying the most expensive Rolling Stones tickets she can find, for Wednesday night. Since a pair of those could reach into the 4 figures, that would surely bring on Smudge’s appearance. Not that we can afford to do that, but doesn’t that seem like an even better guarantee it would work?
Assuming no baby tonight, I’ll work from home tomorrow morning, take my MUL (mother-un-law, thanks Jen!) to lunch at the art museum, and go into work tomorrow afternoon for a meeting and to work while she checks out the museum and Jill works.
But maybe we’ll get lucky and Smudge will decide that it’s time to come out and meet his mommies in the next 12 hours.

so much for scalini’s! you all probably aren’t enjoying the suspense, but from here, waiting for smudge to make his appearance is way more exciting than the superbowl and the oscars put together.
did you say that you might induce on friday? if so, my new hunch is that he’ll show up just in time before you are going to induce. so early friday morning. that’s my new hunch. anyone want to bet with me?

I’m with you! .. he’s a stubborn little smudge! He’s already foiled my prediction of Monday!

Just a thought…when the baby does arrive won’t you be too busy giving birth to post on the blog?
Or are you requesting a maternity ward with Wi-Fi?

They aren’t going to induce on Friday, but they are going to try again to strip the membrane, and they’ll talk to me about scheduling induction.
So Jen, if you want to revise your bet based on that clarification, go ahead.
And yes, Sean, there will be some radio silence when Smudge is actually being born, and then when I’m recovering.
Jill may post an announcement, depending on how technological she’s feeling, and how exhausted. Otherwise, I’d say it’s almost safe to assume that 48 hours of no updates mean there’s probably a new little boy out here in the world with us.

“there will be some radio silence when Smudge is actually being born, and then when I’m recovering.” — hence the “no news updates” so we don’t mistake lack of news for labor-induced silence. which is much appreciated.
i do want to revise my bet based on this information. i’m sorry to say that i think smudge is too damn comfortable where he is and he’s not coming out until late in the game. since my original hunch was for a sunday, i’m going to infer that i was correct but one week off and place my bet on next sunday. sorry!

next sunday for going into full labor, that is. again, he may not actually be born until monday depending on how long you are in labor.

I’m throwing in the towel on this one.. smudge has me stumped.
I have to admit I’d like to see a dramatic water breaking in Macy’s though.
I swear, I’m going to deliver in my office.
I’m off to see if my birthing center has WiFi
