Update - This Time With News
Posted by Liza under Pregnancy
My water broke around 4:30 am. The contractions haven’t been very strong or frequent, but the midwife on call wants us to come in anyway. If the baby isn’t born within 18 hours of water breaking, they have to intervene with antibiotics and who knows what else.
So if you don’t hear back later today, I’m probably in the hospital having the baby.
BTW, that "baby’s head acts like a cork" thing — not so much. Not even standing or sitting.

Hi everyone,
Liza is still only dialated 1cm as of 8:15am this morning; so today looks to be a “wait around” kind of day. What we DIDN’T know was that once they gave her the stuff to help her cervix along, she would have to stay at the hospital. So she’s there now, I’m home for a second to get my mom’s things, and then it’s back to the hospital. I don’t know if I’ll have a chance to post another update, but we’ll see–in the meantime we thank you for all your good wishes!!!

February 9th, 2006 at 10:22 am

This is Liza’s sister Anna with an un-official update;
They are bored.
…apparently they are going to be there for a while still. Smudge is taking his own sweet time. And to my dismay, Liza STILL won’t tell me what his real name is…since he’s not officially here.
Liza is being allowed to eat to keep her strength up, and she and Jill are watching the Wedding Crashers on DVD. She is also killing some time on her cell phone talking to relatives… like yours truly.
I’m sure there will be more news tomorrow.

Smooth delivery and delightful baby holding, all the way from Reno!
February 9th, 2006 at 10:57 pm
Can’t believe I have to head off to bed before knowing Smudge’s real name (and can’t believe you’re still torturing Anna!). But mostly, can’t wait to wake up and know that you’re all okay…and then to figure out when we can get the little one’s together to play! Levi’s looking forward to hanging out with Smudge =)

Anna… thanks for the update.. let us know!!! We’re all keeping a keen eye on these comments!

Here’s the latest from Smudgewatch 2006;
He’s not here yet.
After a long night in the hospital Liza’s contractions have increased in frequency; they are now a little under 5 minutes apart. Her pain is increasing and she will go on IV pain meds momentarily, although they are waiting for the epidural for a while longer. Her cervix is not yet dialated very much though, She is still only at about a centimeter… despite the meds. So they are in a holding pattern right now.
Jill assures me that despite Liza’s pain and discomfort she is still in good spirits. Jill sounded a little tired, but who could blame her after 26 hours and counting in the hospital?
They send their love and thanks out to all of you for keeping the watch on the blog here and promise to give us updates and the good news as soon as it happens! I will do my best to relay it as fast as possible.

Tell Liza that you forget the labor pains when you lay eyes on your child…We are all praying for a safe delivery. Keep us posted.

I had the kids sing their “where ‘o where is Lil Smudge song” — hope that helps! Thanks for the updates.

Here’s the latest info;
Smudge is still not here. Not that he’s not trying…
Liza is having hard contractions about every 2-4 minutes and has had her epidural. She is sort of dozing now that she is out of the significant pain she had been in.
The snag is that she is not dialated enough yet. So in about an hour or two the midwife going to see where she is and they will make a decision if she will have a C-Section or if a vaginal birth will be possible. Liza still being very positive and was very brave for the epidural, despite her overwhelming fear of needles. And both she and baby are doing fine accoring to the many monitors they are hooked up to.
I have passed on all of your wonderful wishes to Liza and Jill and they are much appreciative for the support.
I will further update you after the midwife gets back.

I’m glad she got the epi, and I’m glad she’s resting. It won’t be long now… though it feels like it’s been forEVER for us here on the sidelines!
February 10th, 2006 at 3:04 pm
Ok, I just got off the phone with Liza and Jill and they are going up to the operating room now for the C-Section. Liza is numb from the waist down but will be awake for the procedure. They should have Smudge out in about 10 minutes and then Liza closed up in about 40. I probably willhear from Jill then.
HERE HE COMES!!!!
