I think the thing I love most about blogging is the wonderful community that you all are for me and for our family. There’s something amazing about the combination of "real life" and Internet friends that just works.

Yesterday was a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day. Alexandrian in scope.

Thank you, everyone who left loving and supportive comments about our adoption situation, and all of you who thought them but didn’t write anything.

We talked to the lawyer and we’re mulling over the things she said. I’m not quite ready to blog about them yet. I don’t really like any of the possible options, but we’re going to spend the weekend trying to figure out which strikes the best balance of risk, cost, and disruption to our lives.

For those of you in our real life community who wrote letters supporting Jill’s petition, your work will still be included, whatever we wind up actually doing. And we still appreciate your help.

And thank you to everyone who came up with suggestions for dairy substitutes. I’m working my way throughyour lists.

Jen, I like milk/ice cream/yogurt that has a very "creamy mouth feel" and I like both sharp cheeses like aged/sharp cheddar, and creamy cheeses like, um, cream cheese.

  1. On the ice cream front I can help a little. Two things to try:

    1) sorbet – really good sorbet at that (Haagen Dasz, natch) Dairy free but OH! the mouthfeel!

    2) Soy Delicious “Ice Cream” but ONLY the Purely Decadent flavors. Should be available at Whole Foods. I do *not* like substitute foods but I really liked this when I unwittingly ate it once.

And I thought of one other thing: Amy’s brand makes a roasted vegetable pizza that is cheeseless but has a lot of flavor from the veggies and caramelized onions. Not too much protein but very tasty.

Glad you’ve regained some equilibrium (with impressive speed, I might add… I’d still be under the bed) and hope the plan crystalizes soon.

What terible news… I’m very sorry and I hope that you’ll be able to come up with a good Plan B.

i agree about soy delicious decadent flavors. tofutti makes a decent “cream cheese.” and silk soy milk and yogurt. but you aren’t going to find something that you can eat on crackers and taste anything like real cheddar. that’s not gonna happen.

most people do stop missing cheese after a while, if that’s any consolation. i think real cheese is disgusting now (even the smell makes me want to puke) and can’t believe i ever ate it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don’t know that we’ve really regained equilibrium, but everyone’s support *has* helped enormously.

An ex once described me as “Pollyanna,” and while I hated the comment at the time, it must be admitted that I have an optimistic and sunny nature. And I absolutely refuse to accept the current state as the final outcome.
