In Love Again
Posted by Liza under The Real Live Boy
Last week, when we were at the pediatrician’s office, the medical assistant noticed how much less fussy The King was when he was being held and Mommy was moving. She asked if we had a swing, commenting that she thought he would like it, given his preference for being upright and moving.
We had one, a gift from Erin & Kevin, but it was still in pieces in the garage.
24 hours later, it was in the house, and less than 24 hours after that, it was re-assembled.
The King was not initially a fan. He’d sit in it for a minute or 2 before shrieking inconsolably. But I noticed that every time I tried, it worked for a minute or 2 longer. So I’ve continued to try, a couple of times each day.
As of right this moment, he’s been in it for an hour and 20 minutes. And sleeping for almost an hour of that time. I slept for a good 20 minutes, and also ate lunch using both hands!
Speaking of lunch, on Thursday or Friday, I’ll be writing reviews of the various non-dairy foods I’ve been trying, mostly based on recommendations from you, but some based on things that either looked interesting or merely were available in my various local grocery stores. (Guess what? Celestial Seasonings, the tea people, have branched out into the non-dairy frozen desert world. I haven’t tried them yet, but I bought 1 today.)
Fruit & Veg Count, 3/14: ~2/3 cup mixed veggies & multi-grain pasta in non-dairy corn soup "sauce." (Thanks, Jen, for the imagine soup recommendation. I had some and didn’t even realize it was non-dairy.)

Charlie loves his swing!!! It is a godsend. He will sleep for hours in it and give me time to many needed things. Relish it as long as he will fit in it.

I’m not surprised that Little Mr. Ruler of your Universe likes the swing so much. Remember how he would fall asleep when Jill or I rocked/walked/sang to him? Now just make a tape of you guys singing his favorite songs and he’ll be all set!
Or you could send him to visit Aunt Anna and Uncle Jason?
…I miss him.

Liza - I missed the whole ‘non dairy’ discussion, but I abstain from the moo juice myself and find that almond milk is a perfectly good substitute - especially on cereal.

that celestial seasons crap is to die for. i don’t know how i lived without it– or why i ever ate ice cream…with all that fat and crap in it. i think the vanilla with fdge and hazelnt is the best…but the chocolate tea is a close second.
happy veganing!

The non-dairy thing is the newest example of sacrifices I’m called to make as a new mommy.
It appears that The King has an allergy to milk protein, so I have to abstain while breastfeeding. I’m a Wisconsin girl originally, so I’ve been whining about it rather loudly.
Suze, I’m glad to hear your recommendation! The Van Hazelnut Fudge is what I bought to try! I also bought both vanilla & chocolate almond milk today. (I’ve tried ~4 brands/flavors of rice & soy milks so far.)

Hi Liza,
Have you tried “Grapples” yet? They are a Fuji apple crossed with a concord grape and are quite tasty. We sell them here in Vegas, not sure if they’re sold across the country yet.
Your baby is beautiful, congrats!
Love,
Karen & Sean
