We had such a fun day yesterday.

First, I had breakfast with my friend Kate. Jill even made sure it worked for us to leave the King at home, so I got to go out unfettered.

Then I came home and did a photo shoot of The King.

You can take the Mommy out of Wisconsin, but you can’t take the
Wisconsin out of the Mommy. (Plus, what’s not to love about the only
socialistly owned major league sports team in the US? That’s right, the Packers are not owned by some rich jerk, but by the people of Wisconsin. Many of them, anyway.)Geshundheit

After The King’s photo shoot, we tried our third bottle-feeding.

Now I understand why people gave us bibs. He dribbled and drooled and generally soaked the whole top of his cute little Green Bay Packers outfit. I’m glad I did the photo shoot first! (When nursing, The King almost never drools or spits up. I’m a lucky Mommy.)

Then we went to visit some new friends in the neighborhood! J. and K. are friends of Levi’s Moms, but they live 5 minutes from us! Their toddlers, Jr. & Mini, are some of the most adorable, sweet little ones that we’ve ever met. Jr. into trucks, which we couldn’t provide, but Mini is into both ducks and hats, so The King’s duckie hat was a big hit. We can’t wait to go play with them again soon.

After we came home and installed The King in his intravenous baby crack swing chair, where he promptly fell asleep for 5 hours, our friend Jennifer came over for dinner and to work on monologues for the Big Audition with Mommy Jill. (The Big Audition is Tuesday. Please hope that Mommy & Jennifer break their legs!)

Dinner and conversation were great, as was monologue review (at least as far as I could hear from upstairs), and then Jennifer helped The King continue with bottle practice. She was way better at it than I am, with the exception of a false start at the beginning that shot milk all over, including up The King’s nose.

Sadly, The King did not repeat his long night of sleeping again tonight. We were up at roughly 2, 5, and 8 am. But it was worth it. (It will be more worth it if I get to take a nap.)

Fruit & Veg Count, Last Few Days: Last night, we had Chinese, and I had some mu shu veggies. I know, cabbage > gas = bad, but I LOVE mu shu and haven’t had it in ages. I only had 2 little pancakes of it. The night before, we had baked sweet potatos, mmmmmmm. And I had a non-dairy veggie pot pie for lunch that day too.

The King slept for 6 hours last night! Then he slept for another 3! And he’s sleeping again!

And he would have slept longer than 6 hours, but I woke up in a milk puddle, so I got him up to eat.

I even got to read the paper while drinking my coffee this morning. I am a happy, happy camper.

The King is 6 weeks old today, and he’s clearly outgrown most of his "0-3 month" clothes. Anything with feet pulls down hard on his shoulders.

Yesterday I went through his dresser, pulled out most of the tiny pjs and onesies, and boxed them up. I also moved the 3-6 month sizes out of their boxes and into the dresser. It was both exciting, and sort of sad. Yes, there were items that he never even got to wear. I can’t believe he’s gotten big so fast!

We figured that 6 weeks was a good time to try our "roughly what does The King weigh?" experiment again. And we thought it would be 12 lbs. Maybe a little more.

Ha!

No, he’s all the way to 13.5 lbs!

AND, Mommy has lost 33 lbs since he was born. Only 17 left to get down to pre-preggo weight. (32 left to get down to my wedding weight, almost 3 years before he was born. I’m not sure whether I have that as a goal or am just observing it.)

In any event, Mommy is happy to be able to zip her first pair of pre-pregnancy pants, and to have lost 2/3 of her pregnancy weight. The only thing I miss is being able to wear pre-preggo shirts. That’s not going to happen for awhile — I went out and bought some XXLs and some 1Xs this week. Presumably old shirts will fit again when I’m done nursing.

And we’re happy that The King is so big and healthy.

I have to give mad props to my friend Dave, who just provided my new ABSOLUTE FAVORITE picture of The King.
Noahbabyspock_1 You see, while my parents were visiting, my Mom took this fabulous picture of me and The King. Unfortunately, I had a big brown something stuck in my teeth.

I have zero photoshop-type skills. I tried, pathetically, to edit the picture, but just made it worse.

And then today, while I was thinking about the fact that Dave and his wonderful wife Lizzie are at the worst point in pregnancy (38 weeks), I realized that I have a friend who could probably get rid of that food spot in a New York minute. And that’s about how much time he had left to do this project before he became Daddy to a newborn.

So I asked.

And not only did he send me a beautiful food-free picture, he ALSO sent this delightfully twisted one. Which I am ordering as a photo mug just as soon as I finish this post.

Thanks again, Dave!!!

I saw this on Bitch, PhD, and I am so impressed!

You’ve probably heard that South Dakota recently passed a complete ban on abortions in that state. Ms. Cecilia Fire Thunder is the President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, which is in southwestern South Dakota.

You may not know that, subject to certain limitations, American Indian Nations are sovereign within reservation territory. (That’s why many have been able to build casinos in states where gambling is illegal.)

President Fire Thunder is, by background, a nurse. She found the complete ban on abortions to be an outrage, and said in response, “I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land
which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the
State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction.”

If you, like this blogger, whom I’m quoting, are moved to help, here’s how you can:

If you want to mail donations to the reservation, you may do so at:

Oglala Sioux Tribe
ATTN: President Fire Thunder
P. O. Box 2070
Pine Ridge, SD 57770

OR: and this may be preferred, due to mail volume:

ATTN: PRESIDENT FIRE THUNDER
PO BOX 990
Martin, SD 57751

Enclose
a letter voicing your support and explaining the purpose of the
donation. Bear in mind, the Pine Ridge Res is not exactly dripping with
disposeable income, so do consider donating funds directly to the tribe
as well as specifically for this effort.

ETA: Make checks out to OST Planned Parenthood Cecelia Fire Thunder. This will ensure that the funds get routed properly.

So far, The King is responding fabulously to the pediatrician’s new drug regimen. He’s calmer, happier, and most importantly, SLEEPING!!!

Last night, he slept from ~10 pm until 3:45 am! And I slept from ~11 to 3:45. Then he went back to sleep around 4:30 and slept another 3 hours and 15 minutes. (He woke up briefly around 6 am, but he’d kicked all his covers off and was cold. After I wrapped him back up and tucked the blanket in on the side of the bassinet, he went right back to sleep.)

And he was in a great mood (at least for awhile) after he ate and went through 2 diaper changes:
Happy_noah

Yes, those are mitts on his hands!!! He’s gotten over his aversion to having his hands covered — these don’t seem to bother him at all, and they keep him from scratching his face. I’m not sure how obvious it is from this picture, but his skin is 80-90% cleared up.

Further proof of his good mood? I took a 45 second movie (Download 100_0474.MOV
- warning, large file) of The King waving and cooing. The soundtrack is his crib mobile (which is being replaced by one with batteries, which will presumably play for more than 90 seconds without being restarted), and I’m the voice prompting him in the background.

Fruit & Veg Count, 3/21 & 22: Mixed veggies with dinner Tuesday & butternut squash yesterday, plus an organic gala apple for "lunch" around this time of the morning. Which I’m going to go have again now.

It has been a LONG time since I took a Silly Internet Quiz, so thanks go out to Levi’s Mommy Mindy for pointing to such a funny one!

(And if you’re paying attention to the times that I post, The King turned out to just be making noise in his sleep. He’s STILL SLEEPING!)
