More Shopping to Do
Posted by Liza under Personal
Yesterday, Jill and I each went shopping, separately, for dresses to wear to a wedding next weekend.
I didn’t look at her dress before I went shopping myself. But I did take her recommendation for where to go shopping.
I went out and bought the exact same dress, only one size larger.
The good thing is that the sale price was so good that together the dresses set us back less than $20. And it’s a versatile wedding-type-stuff dress. We might keep them both. Or we might return mine, which for some impossible to understand reason, was $2 more than Jill’s.
Wish me luck finding a different dress sometime this week.

You know… Jason and I had that SAME PROBLEM!
We can’t wait to see Noah next weekend! (and you guys)

Be careful Liza - you and Jill are treading dangerously on the verge of acquiring what S has termed “Narcissistic Lesbian Syndrome.”
This can most clearly be seen in the summertime, in gay-mecca type places where the dyke couples are walking down the street in matching cargo shorts, white sneakers and polo shirts.
You guys are just….classier. Beware!

I know!!!
I never thought it would be a danger with Jill.
She’s not worried, though. I’m not allowed to wear any of her zillions of mostly-vintage concert t-shirts. (And most of them don’t fit me anymore anyway!
)
Unfortunately, she can’t wear any those to the wedding.

Did they charge you the extra $2 for the larger size? Bastards!
I have a black tie wedding to attend in August and I’m loathe to go shopping, myself. Not only do I hate to shop for myself, I hate dress shopping. If I could wear my formal jeans and a pressed t-shirt, I’d be most pleased.

We do suspect that the notorious and evil “oversize fee” may have been involved in the pricing.
Happily, I found an acceptable replacement dress at another discount store this afternoon, this one for $23.
And I think I’m keeping the $9.35 dress. We have 2 more weddings this year, plus Jill’s HS reunion.

That is too funny. I don’t think Cait and I could ever do it. Our tastes (other than tie-dye shirts) are just too different.

Kristin and I have very different tastes, but there’s enough of an overlap that there has been more than one day where we’ve both gotten dressed separately only to notice later that we’re twins. We hate it.

Oh that’s too funny that you bought the same dress! Fran and I have a couple of casual shirts the same, but we never wear them at the same time.

My sweetie and I may share clothing one of these days. As we’re getting more and more comfortable with each other the idea is being bandied about now and then.
What makes this especially delicious to me is that I’m a woman, and my sweetie is, biologically at least, a man.
(By the way, Liza, you’re one of about 3 friends who’s in on B’s trasgender stuff — it’s not for mention in my journal, unless it’s just you and me and one other person. Here, though, I feel totally safe and confident telling you and your wonderful blog friends.)

How facinating! Especially in context of some of the gendered dynamics the two of you have been dealing with over the last couple of months.
Of course I will respect your and B’s privacy. I doubt most of your readers visit here often, but you should know that RB has commented at least once, so may be an occasional visitor. (As I am to RB’s little corner of the blogosphere.)
If you want me to pull down this thread of comments, let me know and I will.

No worries about RB — if I haven’t already told him about this it’s just because it hasn’t come up, not because I don’t trust him with personal info about my sweetie.

Hey J, luckily I don’t think we own ANY polo shirts.

how funny!
travis and i have a lot of very similar casual clothes (and even a couple of things that are the same but in different sizes, because we both love american apparel) but we always make sure not to dress alike on the same day. he has this fear of becoming that couple with matching mickey mouse tee shirts and fanny packs.

That would be a GREAT Halloween costume for you and Travis! I can’t even tell you how entertaining I’m finding that mental picture.

Does Travis wear women’s clothing? That’s what I mean about B — he cross dresses, although rather subtly in general (women’s tanktops and spaghetti-strap tops mainly).
We’re doing our nails tonight.

i got that, but no, travis doesn’t cross dress, i was referring to clothes that would be considered “unisex” — tee shirts, hoody sweatshirts, corduroys, vans sneakers, etc. i believe the old-fashioned term is “tomboy.”
but unisex or not, the “matched couple” look is never a good look.
