Update to the Music Question
Posted by Liza under Personal, Silly Internet Quizzes
Lizzie and Anna correctly identified the song in my head as "Arms Wide Open" by Creed.
CrazyMixedUp
CD Listserv: Jill is of the view that you really don’t want us to
include that song on the CD and you would skip it every time. Or at
least most times. She is lobbying hard against it. I think it’s a
beautiful song about being a parent, and that it fits perfectly with
the eclectic mix we’re finally putting together for our long overdue CD.
(Jill does not think that. And she is in charge of music in our house, and was in charge of the CD. So if she’s right, don’t think that all the songs are like that one, just because I think it’s a perfect fit. Not that she’s right this time.
)
Thanks to Calliope and the Photo Friday voting, we can solve this problem democratically. BTW, anyone can vote, not just members of the listserv. But if you’re on the listserv and you have as strong of a feeling about this song as Jill does, please say something in the comments.

I know there are too many dots in my ellipses. I can only plead a grammatical brain fart.

Sorry but Scott Stapp makes me want to shove pencils in my ears… on top of hearing the song 50+ million times while in college, the man is such a flake… While the song is beautiful, (yes, I love the lyrics), I just can’t get past the singer of the song. Maybe if someone else covered it?!

I like Corrine’s idea of someone else singing it. If you have to stay in the rock genre, how about Velvet Revolver?

I like it. And I like him singing it. I actually have sung along with it when driving. (alone).

I’m one of the “Never heard of it” votes.
Are you making a “parents sing about kids” CD? Because if you are, you MUST listen to and consider the Bare Naked Ladies’ song “When You Dream.”

I don’t know that I could describe the theme of the CD, but that isn’t it. I just had an impulse to include this one song….

so what is this cd you are making and what is this listserv? i love mix cds!!!
i voted “pencil in the head” but you might have guessed that based on my comment to the last post.

Heh! Trista (accidentofhope.blogspot.com) started it about 4 months ago, and I think we’re very nearly through everyone who originally signed up.
The group hasn’t discussed “will we do this again?” but I bet we will have that conversation shortly, with people being allowed to either quit or join at the end of the cycle.
It’s been a blast! Exposure to new tunes, tunes in new combos, new artists, new styles, and insight into the blogosphere’s musical tastes — including guilty pleasures.

Oh yeah, and I signed up by accident. Really.
I did it because I think Trista is super-cool and she had this thing on her blog saying “sign up now cuz we’re closing the list tomorrow” and I signed up JUST because she was organizing it.
Then I realized what I’d signed up for and told Jill that I needed her help.
Still and all, if we do it again, I’ll sign us up again.
And I’ll post a link here assuming that we do a round two.

I think your friend Peter Mulvey would do that song justice. I can totally hear him doing that song.

but i still don’t understand what it is? each person on the listserv makes a mix cd and shares it with the others?
July 17th, 2006 at 9:22 pm
Yes! Each person makes a mix CD and sends it out to the other 18 people on the listserv.
We’ve gotten a CD per ~week in the mail every week for the last 4 months!

There are very few songs I hate with the fire of a thousand suns. This is one of them. I have to back up Jill.
For a few lovely baby songs may I suggest:
Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.
Born at the Right Time by Paul Simon
Halley Came to Jackson by Mary Chapin-Carpenter
