Announcement! (Now with working links!)
Posted by Liza under Personal
Because life with a new and exciting job, a baby whose stopped sleeping through the night and thinks that 2:30 am is the most interesting time of day, and the redesign of this blog is not enough, I am proud and VERY VERY EXCITED to announce the launch of:
My plan for LesbianFamily.org is to create a portal for lesbian blogs that will help blog readers connect with other lesbian moms, pregnant dykes, TTCers, and folks with families in similar situations. I’ve also included categories for “extended family” and “friends of the family” and for interracial families.
PLEASE visit, and let me know what you think.
- If I’ve listed you and you want to be removed from the blogroll, I will.
- If you aren’t listed and you want to be, let me know.
- If you’re in the wrong category or you want to be in an additional category, let me know.
- If I’m missing a logical category, let me know.
- If I’m missing a site you love, let me know.
If you’d rather send e-mail than leave a comment, please send your suggestions or requests to: lesbianfamily @ gmail dot com
OH YEAH, and I would dearly love to make a flickr mosaic of a whole bunch of different lesbian families for the header. Please let me know if it’s ok for me to use a public image of your family. It’ll be days before I get to this, but I think it will be amazing.
My personal blog will remain right here and continue to be personal and all about meNoah. And I’ll be trying to get it looking good and with a functional blogroll again. I think I figured out what wordpress didn’t like before.

I think it’s a fantastic idea! I’m glad you are including family members…

Under babies there’s Riding the Gus Bus that I can think of off the top of my head…
And I would love to be listed under the non-bio mom heading since I’m not technically a bio mom yet.
This is a great idea! Thanks for doing it. If you need any helo, let me know.
Oh, did you ever hear back from that big site with all the paid mom bloggers? You can email me if you want to keep it quiet.

I clicked on the link, and that didn’t work (page not here, error 404), but it was fine when I entered the address manually.
Very happy to be included!

cool! what a great resource you are creating.
how are you liking wordpress? i am using it for a private diary i am keeping (because blogger doesn’t have the option to keep your blog private) and i found it extremely easy to use.

While others praise your new site — which is indeed a fine idea — I will prauie your baby for having the intelligence and discernment to realize that 2:30 in the morning is the most interesting time of day. He’s absolutely right. If only his parents weren’t morning people…

Or that his parents weren’t people with mainstream jobs….
Jen, I’m not yet in love with wordpress. It feels “hard” to me. I picked up a book on it that was comical — thank goodness I looked at the book in the store! For editing themes, it basically said “you can edit the themes by editing the themes” and “don’t forget what code you changed because you have to fix it manually if you broke something.”

i guess it was easy for me because i used a preset theme and didn’t try to change anything. travis has been using wordpress for a while and he customizes the look of his site, so he might be able to help you if you have specific questions.

Yahoo! And wow. What a fantastic resource. Many, many thanks, for the resource in the first place, and also for the listing of Lesbian Dad.
Two notes: I would totally pony up for a modest portion of your annual costs (domain name, web hosting, time) via a donation using PayPal or something. Just in gratitude. I offered this up to Dana at Mombian, and though she graciously declined I’ll still offer periodically. We all gain so much from this network and tons of us would fork over if it were only available via subscription or something. Meanwhile, thank you thank you!
The other note is a wee design note. Or maybe it’s just about your catching up with ongoing upkeep? Would it be possible for you to put “anchor links” at the top of the page, indicating the many subcategories along the right column? At the moment I do see something titled “Categories” but with just the first coupla subcategories, and you have so many! Which, by the way, is SO useful!
Thank you, again, for the pro bono resource!

Polly, thanks so much!
I don’t know why, but your comment insisted on being moderated, while no one else’s did. And I don’t think I have comments set to moderate on this blog. :/
I really appreciate your offer! But the costs for LesbianFamily.org are at this point purely incidental — I’d be paying them even if all I had up was my personal blog. Maybe I’ll look into doing a “tip jar” once I get the site to a more robust functional level, but for now, I wouldn’t feel right about it. Thank you, though.
Re: the design note. I’m still very much in the steep end of the WordPress learning curve, but I agree with you 100% — anchor links just below the header would be way more useful than what I have now. Under the current theme, “categories” = categories I’ve posted in, not categories of the blogroll, and “pages” are anchor links.
I’ll mess around more this weekend to try to get the functionality closer to where I want it. Which may involve sacrificing the purty lavender background.

I love this!
Liza, thank you for doing this- its a wonderful idea and I really appreciate being listed.
I would absolutely be okay with having a photo of my family on your site.
Muchas Gracias!
