The test. It’s almost impossible to blog about, because I think if someone searched for it and found my blog, and I said what I really think, it might reflect badly on me as a professional.

So I will restrain myself to noting that I was surprised and frustrated to find so many grammatical and typographical errors in a professional certification exam. It made me think of the disclaimer Michael Feldman always includes in his show, “Ambiguous, misleading, or poorly worded questions are par for the course, and listeners who don’t like it should get their own show.”

I have no idea how I did. There were only a few questions where I didn’t feel confident in my knowledge about the subject matter. But whether I interpreted the questions as they will be graded — and mind you, they were all either multiple choice or T/F — that I don’t have the slightest idea.

And I got lost in the parking deck trying to go to work after it was over. So lost I had to call security to help me find my car.

Apparently Jill and I missed the Atlanta casting call for the NEXT season of America’s Next Top Model. We can’t imagine how that happened. However, we are extremely excited to go to the casting call for America’s Next Top Short Old Plus-Size Model. I would be a great spokesmodel for breastpumps, having tried and broken every model known to motherkind. (Beware! A product review post is coming! I just need one more replacement part in order to try my last major brand.)

Poor Noah. His mouth is killing him and it’s making him cry almost all the time that he’s awake, unless he’s nursing. (It’s amazing that I have anything left to pump.)

PLLP 9/20-2: I did have that apple, even though Project Runway was a rerun.

PLLP 9/21: Fruit – none. Veg – 1/3 cup mixed veg, 2/3 cup salad, ~1/4 cup veggies in soup. Treats – chocolate glazed donut after the test, chocolate-hazelnut pannacotta at colleague’s birthday lunch.

To get the banner back, I had to delete all these files on the host, which still looked like they were there on FTP, making me a confused and annoyed puppy. S. patiently helped, as usual, in spite of my panicked email.

Incidently, what actually worked was closing FTP and then launching it again — starting over, basically, but doing exactly the same thing. :)

Now I have the right banner there, and it works, and it looks fantabulous.

Crisis averted.

Study break justification also completed. I’m feeling less worried about the test than I was. Either I actually do know a lot about privacy, or the test prep materials are worthless.

For the next 66 minutes, please think “Noah, don’t wake up during Project Runway” with me. He’s making little noises, but if we all hope really hard, they might not turn into him being awake.

(HE SLEPT ALL NIGHT LAST NIGHT! Well, from 11:30 pm to 5:55 am, but that beats also waking up at 1:20 am and 3:45 am, which is what life has been like for the last couple of months.)

The banner is coming back. I broke it, and I’m having trouble fixing it, and I really need to stop trying to fix it and go study for the CIPP exam which I’m taking tomorrow.

PLLP 9/19 (2): I also ate about a dozen baby carrots. And no ice cream.

PLLP 9/20: Fruit – nothing. I’ll have an apple during project runway. Veg – ~half cup sweet corn & btw 1/4 & 1/3 cup turnip greens. Treats – doritos w/lunch, 3 bite-size cookies at unvaluable work lunch & learn, luna bar – chocolate carmel brownie flavor.

Wish me luck with the test. I don’t know diddly about HIPPA or Gramm-Leach-Bliley except that we all have to sign stuff at the doctors and get lots of junk mail from the bank. One of the other book authors wrote those sections. I really don’t know anything about the EU data privacy directive or the special laws that apply if you live in California, which the book doesn’t really cover. And I haven’t taken the pre-test class.

Lately — and by lately, I mean during the last ~7 months, if not longer — I’ve been eating like crap. And when I eat like crap, everyone in the house eats like crap, because I’m in charge of groceries and cooking. And making us fat.

For the first few months after Noah was born, I cut myself a lot of slack. But things have been mostly stable for awhile now. The routine isn’t easy, but it is a routine.

Now I need to work on the routine involving less frozen pizza. (By the way, I can’t say enough delicious things about Freschetta’s thin crust pizzas.)

Step One in Project Live Long & Prosper is me resuming my daily fruit & veg report to you nice people in the blogosphere.

If I am really brave, I will also admit to the awful day last week where — no kidding — I hate half a dozen krispy kreme donuts. (Um, yeah, honey, I didn’t tell you about that…I stopped at the grocery store for apple juice for work and also bought donuts.)

[Ed. Note: did you catch the freudian slip there, where I tried to pretend I hated the donuts? No no, I love the donut. What I did to those 6 donuts, yes 6, over the course of a regular workday, was I ate them. I didn't hate them. Not for a minute.]

Ok, that’s it. The daily fruit & veg report will also include a section on treats. It won’t include the ~1.5 quarts of apple juice I drink per day, mixed with ~4 quarts water. That’s just a given, although I think I’m going to try again to mix it up with some lower-sugar-therefore-lower-cal options like lemon juice.

PLLP, Sept 18: No fruit. ~2/3 cup mixed veggies + beans & rice for dinner. 2 pkgs chocolate chip pop tarts. (I really shouldn’t go to the grocery store in the morning if I didn’t eat breakfast.)

PLLP, Sept 19: 2 very small organic gala apples. Leftover veggies/beans/rice. 2 donuts at work. Anticipating pizza for dinner, and maybe also ice cream. (It’s goodbye dinner for the Baby Juggler Family, who move to the opposite corner of the country on Thursday. Whaaaaah! MORE comfort food neededwanted!)

Step Two is meal planning. Does anyone have any great resources for shopping & cooking such that dinner on weeknights is fast and easy and healthy and generates leftovers that can be lunch? The One-Armed Cook recipes have been “eh” so far. Oh, and no recipes are allowed to involve fish.

How fabulous does this site look now???

The incredibly amazing and talented and generous S., after making a beautiful theme for LesbianFamily.org, made me a new banner for this site and customized the theme AGAIN for this blog.

How nice is she????????

Loooong pause to go soothe and feed (again) a very unhappy teething baby who also, I swear to god, has farted the volume of his own body in noxious gasses in the last 3 hours. Maybe more.

I am in love with the new banner. With the SoVo article last week, Jill felt like she wanted just a teeny bit more privacy than being in the banner of the blog. Since Noah is too young to tell me he’d like that too, and the blog is pretty much all about him these days, I have new banner photos. In a beautiful new banner, with a new tagline.

Don’t blame S. for the 2 funny-lookin bits in the sidebar. She gave me something that worked perfectly and looked lovely, and I messed around with it and caused it to become slightly funny-lookin.

THANK YOU, S! I love my new look!

This morning, I got a lovely call from Christa, whom you may remember as the woman with whom I drove from Denver to DC after September 11.

Christa and her highly entertaining and delightful girl B have set a commitment ceremony date! In June! In Hawaii! We are so happy for them.

And a few hours later, my most awesome colleague Kate knocked on my office door and then handed me a fancy envelope…which contained a beautiful invitation to the commitment ceremony that she and her talented and charming girl Shay have scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend! In Zion National Park! Which is in Utah! In the West! You fly into Vegas!

::goes off to look at mapquest and comes back grumbling::

OK, well, I know this, and you know this, but in case you’ve forgotten, the western portion of the United States is really f*ing big.

So even though we would be approximately a million times closer to an old and dear friend, and in the same state as a cool new internet friend, and gosh, it can’t be that far, can it, from another wonderful new internet friend…all those people do, in fact, live extremely far away from both Las Vegas (the nearest airport) and Zion National Park. At least we would probably get to see the no-longer-blogging Sean and meet his wife.

It’s kind of bittersweet, since our budget isn’t letting us go to Robin & Te’s ceremony, and Robin actually performed ours. AND that wedding would be our last chance to hang out with Levi’s Moms before they move to Eastern Europe for a year or two.
Whether either of these other weddings are in our budget is … well, the optimist here is saying “subject to negotiation.” Which is to say, it isn’t in our budget, but I’m holding out hope. Lots of things could change by May and June.

And I just love weddings.

For the first time in MONTHS, not only is Noah napping on the weekend, but he is NOT doing so while draped over me. AND it’s the second time today!!!

I think I wore him out playing outside and going for walks this morning, while Jill was in a class. Not only did we take two walks, I also made chicken for mommies, started on some chicken for Noah, did a load of laundry, and a load of dishes. I am on fire! And it’s only 1:23 pm.<>

While outside, I discovered that it’s really no longer possible for one-mommy mamarazzi activity. It’s entertaining, but you only get a tiny number of pictures that are something other than the top of the baby’s head, or whatever was in the direction you were waving the camera to keep the baby from eating it.

Outside is FUN!
