If you got a little squeamish about the thrush posts, or I work with you and we haven’t already had one of those personal mom stuff talks, you may want to stop reading now.
It’s nothing personal, but I don’t want to embarrass you.

I had a great run. For my last 2 doctor visits, I’ve been SO HAPPY when they ask, “Date of your last menstrual period?” and my answer was, “April 27, 2005.”

Alas, no more. The new answer is February 26, 2007. Twenty-two period free months, and likely not another one until I hit menopause.

I was lucky. I think it was the nursing and pumping. I don’t think it was a coincidence that this happened 2.5 weeks after I stopped pumping during the day. Maybe the fact that Noah had a night nurse most nights from months 4 through 10.5 also helped.

So why am I so sad?

It feels like I’m grieving the end of an experience. Trying to get pregnant, and being pregnant, and being the biomom to a newborn are such overwhelming physical experiences. And here my body is, providing the loud and clear signal that I am transitioning more fully back to “regular” womanhood.

Geez, I am going to be a mess when Noah weans.

Oh yeah, and I’m worried about the supply on my left side. It’s always been the weaker side, at least while I was pumping, but now it seems even more imbalanced. But does it even make sense to try to increase my left side supply?

Today I’m feeling a little like a hormonal mess. Am I insane for blogging this on the same day I talked up blogging and my blog at a work “Blogging Boot Camp” event?

Oh yeah, and in case you were wondering, these are my personal opinions, not those of my employer. Or as my sig on slashdot says, “These opinions are my own. My employer is not aware of them, does not endorse them, and is not responsible for them.”

  1. Remember reading “Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret”? Like a period was such a great thing.

A wistful toast to your 22 months of freedom.

Hey, at least you don’t have to worry about birth control, and whether it might kill you.

Good luck on the supply. Maybe an LLL question? I have similar issues pumping Rightie; Leftie beats it by 2-to-1 ratio often. Put the two of us together and we average out great!

  2. good to know that it isn’t your employer’s official position that you started getting your period again because you stopped pumping. i was starting to wonder whether that was disclosed to the shareholders or not.

  3. LOL to both of you! The random disclaimer is because we discussed them at yesterday’s blogging boot camp event. I know that more co-workers are reading my blog as a result.
