International Women’s Day (or Blogging Against Sexism)
Posted by Liza under Current Affairs
Happy March 8, International Women’s Day!
In honor of International Women’s Day, I thought I would highlight some of my favorite women bloggers.
And I’m going to focus on bloggers that I don’t usually link to or talk about — so if I’ve linked to you recently, or more than say, twice, don’t be hurt that I’m not linking to you right now. I’m also not counting anyone in my blogroll.
UPDATE: It was just wrong not to include the fabulous team of women at LesbianFamily.org. Yes, I link to some of them over and over, but so be it. They are my favorite women bloggers: Art-Sweet, J., Kwynne, Polly, Round is Funny, S., and Trista.
The next group of bloggers are also favorites, but folks to whom I link and refer less regularly.
- Free Range Librarian: I don’t read her often enough, and my other favorite librarians (Jessamyn and Laura) sometimes find themselves on the other side of nuanced liberal vs radical left library issues, but Karen is a good writer and almost always has something interesting to say. I first met her back when I was working in DC on Internet Free Speech issues — she was a great advocate for her profession.
- NetFamilyNews: Parents, if your kids are at all interested in the computer, you should probably be reading Anne’s blog or web/email newsletter on a regular basis. Every week for the last 10 years, Anne has put together “what’s news” related to kids, teens, and technology, with a special focus on safety issues. She also interviews teachers, parents, kids, teens, and opinion leaders in hot topics in this area. Plus, Anne is level-headed and even-handed, not someone who overreacts to minor issues.
- Queercents: I’m counting this as a blog by a woman because Nina is the founder, and she also recently became an official Blogher Personal Finance blogger. Queercents is a great personal finance, budget, etc money blog.
- What’re you lookin’ at?: Frema’s a new favorite personal blogger. She’s got a nice midwestern vibe, a great blogging voice, and a good eye for interesting blog posts. I think I found her via Hola, Isabel.
- Hola, Isabel: I totally thought she was in my blogroll. It must be that we’ve become more Internet friends since I last updated it. Since she’s eligible based on my arbitrary rules…Isabel is another mommyblogger, with an adorable Sweet Babboo who is just a little bit younger than Noah. She tells it like it is, right down to the bodily fluids.
So those are a few “new to you” blogs that I enjoy. And because I’m blogging against sexism, here’s a link to my friend Richard’s new photoblog. Hopefully he’ll continue to update this one!
