New Day Care
Posted by Liza under The Real Live Boy, Opinion
Noah started his new day care yesterday. I mostly like it, and I think he does too. There are 10 children in his classroom, aged 1-2, all walking. Two other new kids start next week, and the 3 biggest kids in the class move on to the next class.
The only thing troubling me right now is how the teachers handle kids fighting over toys. Am I crazy? They don’t intervene unless things get violent. There’s no effort to teach them to share, or to take turns, or not to take a toy away from another child. The teacher told me that they’ve seen that almost always, one of the children will move on to something else.
Well, we shall see.

I’m glad you all like the place. That is always a plus.
They don’t teach them to share? You’d think that would be the top thing in a daycare full of kids!

Oh dear. I think my comments are going into the spam file. I know I’ve commented on this post and other posts that never arrived.
I’m not part of The Circle of Friends. BAH!
See you next week, though! YAY!

Some people say 1-year-olds aren’t ready for a big emphasis on sharing yet. At our day care, they try to solve the problem by having at least two of everything.

What made you decide to not to go the Montessori route? I ask mainly because my sister is thinking of enrolling her daughters in the preschool program at our local Montessori charter school.

We left the Montessori program because they were closed for tons of vacations, like a fancy private school instead of like a day care.
We just couldn’t handle all the scrambling to find sitters for the days/weeks off. Plus it was already so expensive, then we had to pay more sitters.

Oh no, Lizzy! I can’t believe your comments got slaughtered. That’s so weird — I didn’t have to approve this one.
