The first one was on Sunday, and now I can’t even remember what it was. I think it involved food.

Then on Monday, Noah told one of the teachers to open the door for him. Noah is a big fan of doors these days, and particularly enjoys closing them. Any “door” will do — traditional, gate, fridge, car, or cabinet. If it swings on a hinge, it is a door for Noah’s purposes.

Yesterday, we went grocery shopping. It turned out that the trick to avoid a complete meltdown in the extremely slow line was to let Noah have my keys. Happily, they’re on the kind of ring that separates into 2 parts, so I could still get into the car to get us home, without reviving the meltdown.

“I gah KEYYYYYYYYYYYY!”

It was too cute.

And I figured out that I could get him to say it over and over by asking questions like, “Does Mommy have the keys? Does Kaylee have the keys? Does Miss Val have the keys?” By the time I reached the 2nd or 3rd person, he would jubilantly declare, “I GAH KEY!” And unlike most of his new skills, he was even willing to show that one off to Mommy when we got home.

This morning, “I go!” and later, “I go skoo?”

In other Noah news, this week has also introduced an obsession with excitement about the character Diego, from “Go, Diego, Go!” You may recall that Noah has a riding toy featuring Diego.

For the last 2 mornings, the first thing Noah has said to me after he wakes up and nurses for a few minutes is, “GoGo?” He is impatient until we find the Dora book with two pictures of Deigo, and declare “GoGo!” to one of those pictures. For the previous week or two, the wakeup idea was either “Car?” or “Ball?”

Sorry if you thought this was going to be a story about Noah’s love of Chuck Brown.

I think Noah would like Chuck Brown, but at the moment he’s mostly into the classic MoTown sound. Last night, Noah danced for nearly the entire time we watched Dreamgirls. (With occasional breaks to read the GoGo book and while gnawing on a whole Bappo (apple) with great pride.)

Here’s some gratuitous cuteness from a recent playdate with Liam, aka King of the Babies, the only child we personally know who makes Noah look small:

Green Trains Taste BestBall! And Tasty Too!

Being a non-posting blogger is one of those problems that gets worse and worse, almost like a snowball. The more you don’t write, the more you think you need to write something really big and great and the less you possibly can.

Mostly, I haven’t been writing because I’ve been swamped at work, Noah has been on and off sick and teething, and we are just tired here at Casa Booski.

I have been thinking about a lot of things, though.

  • I love my new cloth diapers, FuzziBunz. I have this thing where I liked to be different, and so it took me forever to try them because they’re incredibly popular.

But they’re incredibly popular because they ARE better than the others I’ve tried. They’re softer on the inside than any of the other ones I’ve tried. That made me wonder if it might be true also of Happy Heiny diapers, which are even cuter, so I also ordered two of them.

By the way, tons and tons of online cloth diaper shops are offering discounts during May — the list of who is offering what is here.

  • Worrying about my sister, whose blood pressure is high late in her pregnancy. We are still, today, planning a baby shower in NYC this weekend.
  • Worrying about Noah’s transition to the new day care, which starts the Tuesday after Memorial Day.
  • Worrying about trying to have another baby ourselves. Doctor’s appointment is on Wednesday, where we learn more about the thyroid stuff and the rest of the test results.
  • Thinking about how incredibly much time and energy being a mom takes and wondering if either of us will ever feel like we have mental energy to spend towards developing and/or fulfilling on other goals, like professional or career development. My lovely wife is surfing classes again, and I wonder what might be the next step on my erratic career path, and how I eventually will get there.

Time to go to bed. That’s one thing I’m certain about.

UPDATED to note, from the official 15 month well baby visit, that Noah is 33″ tall (94th %), weighs 24 lbs (44th %) and has a 19″ head circumference (90th %).

The doctor wasn’t worried about the weight thing; it may be worth noting that at the ER last weekend, he weighed 24 lbs 8 oz, which is in the same percentile range (51-57%) as all of his visits since 6 months.
Dear Noah,

Today you are 15 months old. This past month has been exciting, but rough.

It seems like you’ve been sick the whole month, but I know that isn’t really true. You had croup, you went to the ER throwing up, and yesterday you were sent home from school with a fever of 102.9, although when we took you to the doctor today, they couldn’t find anything wrong.

Your language skills have continued to explode over the last month. You say “Mommy!” and “Mommy?” and “Hi!” all the time. For the longest time, you made lots of animal noises, but not the one for sheep — but this week, you figured out that sheep say “BAAAAAAAA!” I don’t know whether the sheep grin and stamp their feet when they say that.

Yesterday, you wanted to know what sound a rhino made, and I made up a throaty growly sound, which you reproduce as “Kkkkkch.” It might be the cutest sound I’ve heard you make. (Except when you say “Mommy!”)

You still love to dance, and now it mostly looks like spinning in circles until you’re so dizzy you fall down. It takes about 3 full spins. You also love to hurl yourself backwards, confident that we will catch you and hold you upside down. That’s scary! We’d like you to outgrow that phase. Also the climbing up everything, and once arriving, trying to dance in celebration on whatever the surface is.

Your mommies are exhausted, but we’re having a lot of fun. And we love you very, very, very much.

love,

Mommy

I just spent the first 20 minutes of my lunchtime taking this VERY INTERESTING survey about women’s non-fiction reading habits and also interest in writing and reviewing books.

GO TAKE IT: http://www.womenandbooks2007.com

Plus you might win a $100 gift card. But you should take it because the survey is so interesting to think about, not just because you might get a gift card.

Do any of you smart and wonderful readers have any experience or references for what it means/what can be done to address “high normal” thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)?

Jill’s results came back totally within the normal range for “healthy adults” (0.35-5.5) but above the 2.0 recommended for women trying to conceive. (I don’t know what the unit of measurement is.)

They’ve ordered some additional bloodwork, but of course we’re worrying in advance of information. And “Dr Google” hasn’t said much beyond that women with thyroid issues seem to have trouble, particularly with miscarriage.

I started a post at 5:35 am, and thought I posted it just a moment ago, at 9:04 pm. It was funny, although a bit choppy since I’d written most of it before Noah woke up, and then abandoned it until about 5 minutes ago.

Silly mommy. And silly wordpress.

Bottom line: Noah is healthier, Mommies are better rested, and Ira Glass was very funny live.

I need a clever title for a book chapter.

A few months back, I proposed to write a chapter in a book on Mommy Blogging.

My chapter is going to be on how/why I decided to launch the Lesbian Family blog, and then to recruit lots of other wonderful writers to make it both really serve the community and be sustainable.
And now the editors want a title for my chapter, and they need it yesterday.

Any ideas???
