It also had somthing to do with the fact that a lot of us moved to King from Golda Meier. Some of us rember getting through Mr. Mitchels class, and the day Ms. Evensburg bugged out when we pushed back. Then again it wasn't good memories for everyone, ask Sharon Mathis. I ran into her at Tech, small wonder she claims never to have gone there. She was a cheerleader, I figured the most humane thing to do is let sleeping dogs lie. Many of the people had experience forming diffrent groups of friends within the "group" already. Still, when you went to school with people from the fourth grade through high school it can become almost like a family. I mean this is the same core group that had it's first reunion for the fifth grade.

Dave, I think your analysis is spot on. There's nothing like being appreciated for exactly who you are, and I think it's a damn rare experience.

Kara, I hope to be frantically calling you this weekend!

I spent a total of 7 years at RKHS, (3 in the middle school and 4 being one of Liza's geeky friends) and I'm constantly told how weird it is that I'm still in contact with friends from as far back as 6th Grade, despite the fact that some of haven't lived within 1000 miles of each other in 20 years. I've tried for years to figure out exactly why that is... I suspect it has something to do with the extreme impact of friendship and loyalty on a group of previously lonely and socially inept teenaged dorks. Once you find a group of peers that appreciate you for who you are, you never quite want to let them go. Even 20 years later.

Yep. I can. Also, in my high school's defense. I did LOVE the drama department-- and I ended up happier with my high school than my sister was with hers.

Clare, you went to the same high school where Becca went her first two years. Maybe we should reconsider our inclination towards that suburb should we ever move back to Milwaukee?

The other funny thing is that Erin (Clare's sister) can probably come up with more names from my class than hers, and she didn't even go to my high school.

It isn't me. It's an extraordinary group of people.

I graduated from high school 11 years after you and yet you can come up with the contact information for more people in your graduating class than i can remember full names of people in mine. Just saying-- it's impressive.

Fascinating. Since I went to a different high school for my first two years, I was wildly aware of how different King was from your typical 1980s high school experience. Even though it wasn't perfect, the mixing of race, class, and crappy high school social groups was pretty remarkable. Recently, I met someone here in Seattle who was in my graduating class at my first high school. We didn't remember each other at all, but I didn't want to ask his last name because I was afraid that I would discover that this perfectly likeable person was one of the cool kids who had treated me so cruelly way back when. High school casts such a shadow!

Anyway, it's pretty awesome to see some familiar names turning up here and Liza, after your comment on the other post, I really owe you an email!

Jen, I'm pretty sure you would have been part of my geeky social circle if you'd been there.
