Gilbert? Or Sullivan?
Posted by Liza under Personal
I can’t believe it’s Wednesday and I still haven’t blogged about our lovely visit last weekend with our friend Leta.
She was really in town to hang out with a bunch of Gilbert & Sullivan geeks, which is kind of like a Star Trek con, but with musical scores instead of pointy ears or Klingon costumes.
After they finished their weekend of singing, we picked Leta up and went to play at the park and then have dinner. Noah was a champ through dinner, joining in the ambient noise with loud “conversation” of his own. Then we went for ice cream, and a sudden whirlwind tour of the Farmer’s Market.
Aunt Anna? Gilbert AND Sullivan are good names!
We don’t have a nephew yet, but predictions are that we will have one by this weekend. There are strong odds that she will get induced tomorrow — the blood pressure thing is not so great, but Anna is now 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant, which counts as full term. So, Baby Boy, come on down!
This is lucky timing for me, since I will be in New York this weekend and should get to meet my nephew right away!
A few of us are meeting up in Central Park on Saturday afternoon (Children’s Museum if it rains). If you’re a New York blogger or lurker and want to join us, leave a comment. The only reason you weren’t invited is because I probably don’t realize you’re a New Yorker. And I’m not very organized about stuff like that.
And I am starting to get SO EXCITED about BlogHer. Are you going?

Give my regards to Broadway - I miss NY every day. My kids grew up in Central Park - such a great place for little ones. I don’t even know if the Children’s Zoo is still there but Alice in Wonderland is and she’s worth a trip to the park on her own. Have a wonderful time — see you in Chicago town sweetie.

BlogHer! I’m getting so excited. Especially since I’ve been getting to know all of you ladies. Woot!

Gilbert is just mean.
I like Sullivan, though. As long as “Sully” is strictly verboten.
Anxious to hear about Aunt Anna and the Forthcoming Nephew!
And WOOT for a fun romp in the park this weekend.

The name Gilbert will ALWAYS make me think of Anne of Green Gables.
I’m going to BlogHer. But you knew that.

Apparently it is now looking like I won’t have a nephew yet by the weekend.
First, the hospital lost Aunt Anna’s bucket-o-pee. Don’t ask. The point is that they seem to be backing away from Must!Induce! Now!
So unless she goes into labor on her own before say midnight on Saturday, I will probably gone from NY before

Names are powerful, no?
Last time I was in Utah, a lamb was born (very much out of season). Denice and family don’t tend to name their lambs — it’s kind of hard to eat something with a name — but in my honor this one was named; we call her Rackof.
Denic and I were supposed to fly to Utah yesterday, but weather delayed us until today (her plane is rather small). Yesterday two twin lambs were born, siblings to Rackof. We have decided to call them Rogan and Josh.

So, if the Nephew isn’t born by this weekend, does that mean that your family will come BACK to NYC at another time? !!!

Reno, names are amazing. I think that was one of the hardest things about having Noah — the responsibility for naming him. (Hardest before he was born, I mean.)
I do want to consider the symbolic meaning around the fact that your presence seems to call forth baby sheep. Baby sheep with excellent names, I might add.
And Lizzy — the answer to this one is “yes but.” I have no idea when the return trip will be — between this trip, the one for the shower, and BlogHer, the travel budget has been pretty well consumed.

This is a late comment to your “I probably don’t realize you’re a New Yorker” statement. On my recent whirlwind (less than 48 hrs) trip to NYC, I didn’t realize Shelli was a New Yorker ’til I got home! How’s that for d’oh! Reading in your later post about the fun you had just makes me want to get back there STAT.
