Just Because I’m Back…
Posted by Liza under Personal
Doesn’t mean I’m not still frantically busy.
But! First the good news: my computer at work is up and running again, with no loss of data. The only things lost were my mountain of firefox bookmarks. But that’s probably good as they were completely disorganized, and included many sites I never used.
Now I have the opportunity to start over, does anyone have a widget or social bookmarking site they love?
My phone also worked yesterday, for no apparent reason. The mystery and excitement of will it or won’t it is not fun.
Ignore the password protected post below. I’m experimenting with features on the blog. If I ever do post something password protected, you can email me for the password.
More good news? Noah’s best friend from the old daycare is now at the new day care! Unfortunately, the teachers say they’ve been fighting all week and had to be separated.
Aside to Brian & Karen: She’s the little girl whose hair reminded us of your daughter’s. And now as a 2 year old, her hair looks boringly normal. Which makes us kind of sad, but probably relieves her parents.

I use del.icio.us for my bookmarks and I love it!!!!

One of the lesser-known bookmarking sites is Connotea. It’s specifically tailored for researchers bookmarking peer-reviewed research, but it works very well for any sort of material. It will automatically scrape citation info from journals’ web sites for many publishers, especially those in the natural sciences and medicine.
You can designate a bookmark as private (when I last looked at del.icio.us it didn’t provide that feature). And you can annotate with both a description and a comments field.
Connotea uses tags to organize bookmarks, as many of the services do. You can write a note that describes each tag, so that you (or someone you’re sharing your bookmarks with) can remember what a tag means. See, for instance, my page of bookmarks tagged “General reference”.

I love how you ask about widgets like I know what that means. You’re cute.

Howdy Liza,
I just realized that I don’t have you on any of my instant messenger buddy lists
I am dropping you a note to boast that I can officially be promoted from your “Friends who don’t update” list into your “Friends who blog” list. I’m still figuring out all of the bells and whistles with WordPress, but I have at least managed to cross-link to you.
I can’t believe how big the little man is.
Love to you and the brood.

i second lizzie’s emotion about del.icio.us but also give linkagogo a look if you like a little more of a traditional folder feel with your tags.
love ya,

I have a custom home page on my laptop on which I hand-code links I use a lot, but that only works because I use the same computer (Phoebe, aka Phoebe-Beebee) everywhere I go.
