Dear Noah,
Yesterday, you turned 18 months old. We officially have to start telling people how old you are in years now, not months.
This month has been action packed! You and Mommy hung out together for a few days while I went to a conference, then you met me in Milwaukee so we could spend a week at Grandma & Grandpa’s.
While we were there, you got to meet lots of cousins (not first cousins, but I couldn’t quite work out who they are to you on this chart) and eat lots of new foods. The cousins were a little overwhelming, but watermelon, spaghetti, and sun-dried tomato hummus were big hits.
You also invented a very entertaining mealtime game. It works like this:
Noah: All done! (While gripping some food item in hand.)
Mommy: Can I have the toast/pizza/cheese?
Noah (thoughtfully): Noooooo.
Mommy: Then you’re not all done.
pause.
Noah: All done! (Still gripping said food item.)
Mommy: Can I have the [food item]?
Noah (thoughtfully): Noooooo.
Mommy: Then you’re not all done. You’re still eating [food item].
pause.
Noah: All done! (Still gripping said food item.)
Mommy: Can I have the [food item]?
Noah (thoughtfully): Noooooo.
Mommy: Then you’re not all done. You’re still eating [food item].
There was no limit to how long this game could be played. When you got bored, you stuffed the item in your mouth, making the “all done” both harder to understand, and perfectly clear. Also, anyone could play with you, not just Mommy.
Happily, we managed to catch a minute of the game on video.
Your vocabulary continues to grow daily. Words you have started to say regularly this month include: penguin, berry, chair, other (something, ie, not this one), ride, airplane, tree, and box. While we were at Grandma & Grandpa’s, you also said that, plus statue. The last word there reminded us of another friend!
You’ve also figured out that those pictures all over the house, are mostly of you. You point and grin and announce, “Noah!” Then you look at us and ask, “Noah?” for confirmation. When we agree, “Noah,” you beam and declare it final: “Noah!” I’m not sure you believe that the baby in the new picture with Uncle Jason is actually your cousin Maxim.
In other good news, Kaylee has joined your classroom at your new day care. Unfortunately, the teachers say that the two of you have been fighting. I hope that stops as she adjusts to the new place.
We’re also working on learning how to take good naps and wake up at tolerable times in the morning. Hopefully the pain of that will be over by the time I write next month’s letter.
Your mommies love you very, very much.
love,
Mommy
