I had my meeting with HR a little while ago, and just wanted to update family & friends that I still have a job!!!

The mood here is still pretty sad — roughly 900 people were “position eliminated” and 4 smaller offices will be completely closed.

  1. I’m SO GLAD that you still have a job. But how sad for all thsoe other people and their families!

  2. oh my gosh! I am so glad to hear this. 900 laid off is insane!

  3. So happy for you!!

  4. Glad you still have a job, but I imagine its hard to be happy with so many around you suddenly leaving. Wow! 1/2.

  5. Just checking in! So glad you are still employed. The mood must be somber around there now.

p.s. I’d like to put up your “Friend of the Family” button on my sites.

  6. RIFs suck. Having survived a few myself, I’m not sure whether it’s better to be layed off or to keep your job. At least in the engineering world, if your team is reduced by a RIF (already a morale killer), management then asks the remaining people to do the same amount of the work with fewer people. Oh, and since the company is in such trouble, could you get it done even quicker, please? If a company is doing heavy layoffs, and you’re still there, it’s probably time to start looking at alternatives, IMO. Sometimes companies give incentives to those who survive the RIF just to stick around. Anyway, condolences & best of luck to those who were layed off.

  7. Thanks, everybody!

Angela, I’d be honored to have you put up a Friend of the Family button — they’re here: http://lesbianfamily.org/button-code/

  8. I’m a little late to the “glad you’re still employed” party, but I’ve had the inside scoop that you survived, and I’ve been SLAMMED with Linked-In connections. Resumes have been flying and Yahoo! recruiters have been very eager to exploit any of my connections to the newly unemployed. Here’s hoping I can help find at least a few of them new gigs.
