Friends and Bloggers
Posted by Liza under Personal
On Thursday morning, at the crack of dawn (well, actually just after 7 am, which is hours after we’re usually up), Noah and I had an amazing breakfast.
My friend Cindy was in town, and she was delightfully committed to introducing me to her friend Anna, also a toddler Mom.
Noah loved exploring Josiah’s toys and helping him examine everything in reach in Anna’s pantry. I loved talking with Cindy and Anna. Toddler-wrangling meant that many interesting topics were introduced, touched on, and abandoned because of a sudden and pressing need to protect furniture or provide a banana or wipe a nose. I found that incredibly encouraging — lots of things to talk about again!
Anna, incidentally, is a parent model! She and her adorable son were the “nursing in public” models in Parents magazine this summer. I call that brave on so many levels. There’s a blog entry about it on the Parents blog, and a pdf of the actual article as well.
I think Anna and I are going to start a book club. What should we read first?
And on a totally unrelated note, WHERE’S MY SURGE? Hello, ovaries? It’s Day 18! Do ya think ya might release those eggs?

i can’t believe you aren’t already in a book club, you seem like such a book clubby person!
my book club is reading “the road” by cormac mccarthy, and i think it’s a good book club book. i loved it, and most people who’ve read it have a lot to say about it, so it will be a good way to get the ball rolling.

I agree that it was a wonderful morning! But of course two of my favorite blonesa and their wonderful children; what more could one want?
I led Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay which I totally love. Another is The History of Love by Nicole Krause if you want to read women…
Both of these were read in the book club Anna and I started before she moved back to Atlanta — so it would be great to know she read them too! Each is remarkable in its way.

Funny article in Parents. I especially liked the guy leering at her in the bookstore. I usually duck into a changing room if I’m in a clothing/department store. But I have nursed in the stands at a minor league ballgame (sparsely attended, thankfully).
Books? You have time for books? Do you never sleep?

Reading, at least a little, is even more critical to my sanity than blogging. I read a LOT less than I used to, but more than, say, a year ago.
I read for a few minutes most nights before I fall asleep, and sometimes in the early morning.
