I always find it both strange and interesting that when I go on my occasional obtuse political-ish rant, y’all smile, nod, and wait for me to talk about something more interesting to you.
But as Jill and I were discussing this evening on the way home from picking up my now functional car (hurray!), everyone just isn’t interested in the same things. (Jill wishes I were more interested in my car; I think of my car as a giant purse that takes me and any crap I might possibly need from point A to point B.)
Ultimately, we both agree that it’s probably good to have different interests, because how boring would it be if everyone were the same? I suspect you agree, even though you don’t usually comment on those posts, and I know I’ve gotten lots of fun ideas and interesting reads from bloggers on tangents.
Anyway, the car is fixed, the car shop is almost $400 richer, Noah went quietly to sleep tonight for the first time in 3 nights, even though he refused to eat a single solitary bite of his dinner. (We did let him have two pieces of string cheese just before bed.) And we have a plan for weaning at bedtime, which got off to a good start.
Plus, I got a nice check back from my flexible spending account, instead of the paltry $6.54 checks they’ve been sending me, so I actually have a reason to go to the bank tomorrow. And they found Noah’s missing blue choo-choo at church — I’m going to pick it up tomorrow.
The week is getting better.

When I was in a phase where I didn’t wear a watch, I generally thought of my car as a clock that took me places! (And I like cars to an extent. Fairly closely correlated to how well they’re functioning.)
Tangents are what makes blogs fascinating, I think.

Liza, Thank you for the best car description ever. I hereby warn you that I plan to steal it, and to use it as often as I can. You will, of course, receive full credit. (Do you prefer to be cited in MLA, APA, CBE, Chicago, Baywood, or some other obscure style?)

current events are a tangent? i didn’t know you thought of your blog that way.
if your audience gets a vote, i think you need to take more interest in the trans am. did you (i mean jill) know that there is a group that re-traces the smokey and the bandit run every year? one of trav’s co-workers did it last spring. i tried to google it and i found this. you and jill totally should do this next year! (check out the “trailer” video, it’s awesome!)

You all are making me giggle.
Reno, I can only take partial credit for the car description. Back when I lived in Madison, my friend Sarah Goldberg described her car as “a giant purse” and I had the same reaction you did. I suspect Sarah would prefer to be cited in APA style. Should I be mean and insist on Blue Book style? It’s a whole new secret decoder ring of references for you to learn!
Jen, when I have to pick categories for my blog, I usually list politics/current events as the 2nd or 3rd category, after parenting and personal. Maybe call it a predictable and regular tangent?

If you asked Liza if she ever thought she’d go on a “Bandit Run” she’d probably tell you that she is not interested in a life of crime.

Yes, it is good to have different interests. Right?!
Glad Noah went to sleep. And dude, what is with string cheese? Babboo eats it like crack!

Oh my sweet do I ever get this! I will tell you though that sometimes I get MORE feedback on the political stuff. I guess it depends on the mood of the blogger and the mood of the reader and when they mesh and when they’re out of step.
OH and reading your doozie day was breathtaking - I guess memory of such days fade because tho I’m sure I must have had some I don’t remember any. So reading about yours gave me vicarious sympathy. It’s almost too much to be believeable….
Thank goodness you’re one strong cookie.

Delurking to say that, while I often find a good rant immensely educational and entertaining, they usually involve a topic that I have little knowledge about, so the ‘no comment’ is more about the fact that I’ve got nothing valuable to add, rather than lack of interest. Keep the rants comin’!
