Our home internet access has gone out 3x this week. I’ve had 5 phone calls with their customer service/tech support people. Some were helpful, if only temporarily, some sounded stoned out of their little minds, and some seemed like complete idiots, and some lied to me.

I’m having a week of really hating on Comcast.

The liar told me that my whole area had an outage. When I called back 5 hours later for an update, the next person said that my area was not in and had not been in an outage.

The idiot and I had this conversation:

Comcastic Idiot: What’s the MAC ID on your modem?

Liza: (Reads it off to him.)

Comcastic Idiot: That’s too many numbers.

Liza: Those are the numbers that are written there.

Comcastic Idiot: (Reads it back to me. It bears a slight resemblence to the numbers I have given him, but is not the same.)

Liza: That’s not the number. Let me give it to you again. (Gives it to him again, more slowly.)

Comcastic Idiot: That’s 13 numbers. It should only be 12.

Liza: (Counts the numbers.) I only gave you 12. Can you read it back to me?

Comcastic Idiot: (Reads it back. Wrong again.)

Liza: Wait! Stop! There’s no 2 after the 5.

Comcastic Idiot: It still isn’t accepting the number.

Liza: I’m not sure what to do about that. Do you want me to read it to you again?

Comcastic Idiot: Okay, yeah.

Liza: (Reads it again.)

Comcastic Idiot: How many zeros was that at the beginning again?

Liza: (Answers.)

Comcastic Idiot: Oh! I thought there were 4.

Liza: No.

Comcastic Idiot: Hey, now it’s accepting the MAC ID number!

Liza: Great.

This became even funnier after the next time it went out. The next tech support person also asked for the MAC ID #, telling me it wasn’t in the system like it should have been. I mentioned all the drama of providing it EARLIER THAT DAY, but apparently all that drama did not result in the data being saved.

Anyway, it really and truly is out. And they are sending a technician tomorrow afternoon. Or so they claim.

In the mean time, I may or may not be able to update the blog or check email.
