Noah has big plans for Easter.

On Saturday night, he will be spending his first night away from both mommies. When he wakes up, he’ll be hunting for eggs with Grandma and Grandpa! This Mommy, That Mommy, and Josie will come over a little bit later in the morning to join everyone.

So far, he seems excited about it. Grandma bought a book called Froggy Sleeps Over, and we’re talking up the adventure. I think it will be ok.

Part of this is, of course, just your regular kid getting bigger stuff. But we are also working our way up to a longer Noah-less adventure this summer. Jill is going to come with me to BlogHer, and I think we’re going to stay in Chicago for 3 nights!

I think Josie will be joining us there — although she’ll be getting close to 11 months, she will probably not be weaned, and I don’t think we can, or want to, saddle Grandma with both grandchildren for an extended period of time. Not until they’re older, anyway.

Any recommendations, more experienced parents?

  1. Advice? Hmm. Ummm. Errrr.

  2. While I only have my one boy – for now – I have experience of being on the other side of the multi-kid drop off. Many a night we’ve had both nieces, one elementary aged while the other is a baby.
It’s stressful, and unless the grandparents have enough room and energy, they would be a little more than a handful.
However, I would wait and see how Josie is at that time. Her personality might be perfect for the situation, and you’d want to take full advantage of it! If it feels okay, run a two night trial with the g’parents before you make solid plans. Why two nights? The first night is always terrible, even if everyone keeps the schedule as normal as possible.
Incredibly good advice, trust me. We now keep our nieces for two nights so we can get at least ONE good evening out of them!

  3. I would do it the same way! Wean Noah slowly and wait on the little one….one at a time!

  4. In case Noah gets too wound up on pillow fights and snacks and such (all described in the Froggy book), I’m making a reservation at the hotel a few blocks from our house just in case. Then I can sneak out, leave him with grandpa, and get some sleep. (Don’t rat me out!) :>)
