Pregnancy

Still nothing.

But acting on popular comment demand, if there’s still nothing tomorrow, I will go to the extremely high end mall, home of Georgia’s only Tiffany’s, and walk the mall until I can’t stand it. :-)

(In case it works, don’t worry. The mall is only ~30 minutes from the house, maybe less. And even closer to the hospital.)

In good news, the farmer’s market has attractive large organic gala apples again, so I’m Happy Fruit Girl.

And while I was there, I came up with another silly theory! Smudge couldn’t come because we had no champagne with which to toast his arrival!!!

Of course I corrected that, including buying the most expensive bottle of fancy French champagne that I’ve ever personally bought — $25. It got a 94 from some wine magazine. And in case we need more, I also bought a less expensive bottle of Spanish sparkling wine that also had a high score from a different wine magazine.

I can’t believe this is "no news" update #12.

But it is. The interview is at 10 am, they should be outta here by 11 am, and I really hoped that Smudge’s perverse sense of humor would have me go into "go to the hospital" labor by now.

My new suspicion is that his sense of humor will either trigger labor tomorrow, right around when my MUL goes back home, or Saturday, a birthday that is already spoken for within our circle of friends.

I’ve given up completely on labor-inducing old wives tales.

Fruit & Veg Count, 2/7: 1 organic gala apple, ~1 cup pumpkin & wild mushroom risotto (so maybe 1/3 cup veggies out of that?)

No baby, no signs of baby coming.

UPDATE: I’m being interviewed as a kids’ online safety expert tomorrow, by a company that does educational television programming on kids’ issues — unless I go into labor before 10 am tomorrow. How’s that for some reverse psychology?

But I did sleep like a rock last night. I had a hot bath and was so relaxed that I only woke up twice. And one of those times, it was because Jill scared the crap out of me by poking me in the nose. (It wasn’t on purpose.)

So I’m taking my MUL out to a nice lunch at the Art Museum, then going to work, and then going to Macy’s to see if I can live out my sister’s fantasy of going into extremely dramatic labor in Macy’s.

The best thing I can say is that I have had occasional contractions for most of the day today, which is more than I could say the last few days. Yesterday and the day before, I only had them in the evening.

I can no longer tell whether or not they’re Braxton-Hicks or "real" or just Smudge moving in a way that squeezes everything else together.

But there isn’t much of a pattern, whatever it is that’s going on, and it isn’t sufficiently intense to stop me from moving or talking. So I’d say it isn’t labor, or if it is, it is SO EARLY that it may well keep going like this for days.

Jill is now talking about buying the most expensive Rolling Stones tickets she can find, for Wednesday night. Since a pair of those could reach into the 4 figures, that would surely bring on Smudge’s appearance. Not that we can afford to do that, but doesn’t that seem like an even better guarantee it would work?

Assuming no baby tonight, I’ll work from home tomorrow morning, take my MUL (mother-un-law, thanks Jen!) to lunch at the art museum, and go into work tomorrow afternoon for a meeting and to work while she checks out the museum and Jill works.

But maybe we’ll get lucky and Smudge will decide that it’s time to come out and meet his mommies in the next 12 hours.

Fruit & Veg Count, 2/6: 1 small organic gala apple, 1 small organic banana, 2/3 cup mixed veggies (corn, carrots, broccoli).

A few more contractions, but nothing especially exciting. In spite of my best efforts.

C’mon, Scalini’s! Less than 10 hours left for the eggplant to get any credit.

The nursery is now officially done. Here’s a cute shot of Jill and her Mom with the crib, just after we got it put together:

And here’s one of me and Jill, after we attached the mobile to the crib. I’m 40 weeks & 2 days.

I had some contractions last night and got all hopeful again.

But then I went to sleep and they all stopped. Nothing since midnight last night. Grandma & Jill & I did finally put the crib together, and it looks wonderful. So the nursery is all done, the bags are all packed, and…we’re going to brunch.
